I can’t believe it’s time for another favourites post! It honestly feels like I was writing up my March post just yesterday!
April seems to have went in mega fast-forward for me, I don’t even remember anything that’s happened! Hopefully though, now that we’re heading into May the sun will follow and the cold/rain will disappear in time for some real spring-time weather but I won’t hold my breath.
Anyway, as you all know these are my favourite posts to write and even though I found it so hard to even remember this month, let alone what I loved during it, I’ve managed to find a few amazing things I’ve loved in April.
Barry M Molten Metals Nail Polish in ‘610 Copper Mine’
I’ve actually had this nail polish for a really long time now, but it was hidden at the back of my shelf because I’ve reached for more pastel and colourful shades instead. A few weeks ago I was picking what colour to paint my nails as I was sick of all the spring lilacs and pinks I’d been wearing non-stop and rediscovered this beauty hiding away. As soon as I applied it, I fell in love with it all over again and I’ve had it on for the last 2 weeks straight!
I usually have to apply 2 coats, because the first coat goes on really light and just leaves a little copper sheen on the nail. However, it dries in super quick and once the second coat is added it’s the most beautiful, shimmery, copper colour. I haven’t tried the other colours from this range, but I’m just in love with how shiny and long-lasting this nail polish is! I’m so bad for chipping my nail polish and picking it off but this genuinely lasts me a good week before peeling/chipping off (which is super impressive for me).
Nails are my thing and I love mixing them up and changing their colours and patterns as often as I can but I genuinely can’t get enough of this nail polish at the moment and I don’t see me changing it for a while.
Collection Fast Stroke Eyeliner ‘Waterproof Black’
I bought this a few weeks ago to try although I’m pretty sure I’ve had this eyeliner before but I’m not 100% sure. I’ve been so used to using those felt liners recently as well that I had such a huge disaster the first time I tried using this, and I mean DISASTER. I had black liner all smeared and dripping all down my face – I forgot it’d be so liquidy! Since then, I’ve definitely gotten used to applying it and I prefer it to the felt liners I used to always use! I feel like this is such good value for money and is also super long-lasting, it honestly lasts me hours. Usually, I have that weird problem with one flick disappearing leaving me looking lopsided but I haven’t had that problem using this eyeliner either, which has been great.
It leaves the skin around my eyes feeling normal as well. Felt liners have really dried them out recently and so using this has made my eyes feel less sore and red which has been great! I love how pigmented Collection Eyeliners are too – they make my eyes look so dramatic.
Overall, I’ve loved using this in April and I can see it staying in my makeup collection for a really long time!
Barry M Flawless Mist & Fix Makeup Setting Spray ‘Dewy Finish’
This was actually an impulse buy a few weeks ago but I’m so glad I got it! I used to love using setting spray but when my old Avon one ran out I totally forgot to pick another one up.
Recently, I feel like my powder has sat really heavily on my face and I just wanted something to make my face look and feel fresher. This spray comes in dewy and matte finishes, but I felt like the dewy one would be best for this time of year and it’s made such a huge difference to the way my makeup looks and feels!
I usually use a spray before I put on my concealer and a spray after powder, although I do use this throughout longer days to keep my makeup fresh too. I’ve really noticed a difference in how long my makeup lasts and I’ve even gone a few days without powder since using this which isn’t like me, but I feel totally covered with this on!
I’m just so sad that it’s such a tiny bottle, please let me know if you’ve seen these in bigger sizes because I’ve nearly run out already!
13 Reasons Why
What blog post in April would be complete without mentioning ’13 Reasons Why’!? I was going to do a review post on this series but I really can’t collect my thoughts on it at all. I’ve never felt as empty and raw and devastated as I did when I watched the last 3 episodes of this.
If you haven’t seen it yet (how?/why?/what?) then I won’t give any spoilers away, but the show is basically about a girl called Hannah Baker who commits suicide and each of the 13 episodes is a reason/event that led up to her ending her life. I went into the show knowing that it would be tough to watch but I’ve never felt the way I felt watching that last episode. I had to watch it with my boyfriend (who hadn’t seen any other episodes) because I knew I couldn’t face it alone, and even then I cried the entire way through and then for hours afterwards too. I’m about to cry now just thinking about it!
I feel like this a really important show that raises awareness of mental health and suicide, but also bullying and reminding us to be aware of our own actions. I totally believe that everyone should watch/be aware of at least some of the events from the show. I know there’s been some negative reviews and opinions on the show as well, and it’s been accused of romanticising mental illness or implying that love can heal all and I do get where those accusations are coming from, but I think the show has such vital educational value that it’s still so important anyway.
It’s weird that one of the favourites I feel most passionate about is the one that absolutely destroyed me but I feel like a better person from watching it. It’s really made me aware of the harm our words can do to others and that everyone has their own stories and problems no matter what it seems like on the outside. I wish this show had been around when I was in school, I feel like it’s so important for the younger age groups to watch and understand, or at least be told about because it’s such a relevant topic in this world of bullying and alienation.
I think I’ll be ordering the book and I just hope it’s not as graphic and hard-hitting because I don’t think I can handle another heartbreak over Hannah.
Pretty Little Liars
IT’S BACK. I was so late in starting PLL, I didn’t get into watching it till it was 6 seasons in and I became instantly hooked. I flew through the entire series and it feels like I’ve been waiting for ages for the last episodes to come on!
Honestly, April went by so fast I completely forgot that it was PLL month until the day before the show started back but I am so glad it’s here. I’m not as impressed with the episodes since the girls have left school, it just feels so cringe to watch (is it just me?) but I’ve put so much into this show I need all the answers! I’m so sad that it’ll be over though, I love just zoning out and watching the episodes. Plus, the girl’s lives are so dramatic it makes me feel so good about mine being normal (and boring?).
I have so many theories I really hope come true for the end of the show, and please let me know what you’re hoping the end will be like, but I’m so desperate for Spencer to be A!
April might just be one of the best months of 2017 because it’s the month I got to meet the loveliest lady ever! I’ve spoken to Lola for what feels like ages since starting my blog and we had the loveliest day filled with shopping, afternoon tea, giggles and a few Prosecco’s! Without going into the whole sob story it feels like ages since I’ve had a genuine friend who I could have the silliest chats and the girliest giggles with and meeting Lola was the most fun I’ve had in such a long time! I really felt like a normal person after seeing her, as I’ve felt so out of touch with everything since leaving uni, and it was so nice to just have some girl time and get some blogging tips as she’s a pro! I haven’t seen her since, but I am so excited for our next day together and I miss her so much already. It’s so nice when you meet a friend for the first time and you just instantly click and I’m going to be pestering her (probably forever) for some more girl time. (sorry Lola!!!)
She was also kind enough to sew me this gorgeous cushion when she came to see me and I’ve been obsessed with it ever since. Firstly, she has some insane skills I’m so impressed! I can barely get my sewing machine to go in a straight line, let alone make someone a cushion! But I just thought it was the kindest gesture ever and I’m so happy I got to meet up with the sweetest lady ever this month!
Cadbury’s Dairy Milk Medley (Dark Chocolate, Raspberry & Hazelnuts)
(I had to buy another bar for this picture because I can’t stop eating this chocolate & as I’m writing this, there’s only one square left of this bar – oops.)
I have no idea if this is a new bar of chocolate or if it’s been around for ages and I’ve just not noticed, but I only saw this at the start of the month. I’m a total chocolate fan and I get major cravings for milk chocolate with hazelnuts but I was so fed up of always getting whole nut bars. As soon as I seen this on display, I was so excited to try it because raspberry, chocolate and hazelnuts just seemed like the best combination.
Honestly, I don’t remember actually eating that first bar because I’ve had about 35 this month but I just have to say I LOVE IT.
The mix of the chocolate and the dried raspberry pieces especially are just amazing, I am obsessed with the tangy flavour it gives! I think there’s another medley bar that’s a fudge or toffee flavour but I can’t imagine anything will top the raspberry pieces one – it’s far too good! I think I’ve had one of these bars every single day this month, which is so bad, but I don’t even feel bad because it’s too yummy. Also, it has raspberry pieces so I guess some of it is healthy/good for you?!?
I’m kind of cheating because I only bought this 4 days ago but I’ve been desperate for a light box for so long that it definitely is one of the things I’ve loved this month! I picked this up from Sainsbury’s as it was only £10 so it was such a bargain!
I’ve looked at light boxes for ages but I’ve always found them to be just a bit too expensive so I was super happy that I got this one for such a great price. Saying that though, it’s a really teeny one so you can only fit 5 letters on each line (and spelling ‘Claire’ was a struggle) but I love how cute it looks on my desk!
I mainly bought this one as a blog prop anyway so I think I’ll save up for a bigger one to put in my room but I’m not in any rush for it right now. I would say though, this light box only came with one letter ‘h’ which I’ve found really difficult. You’d be surprised how many words use ‘h’! I tried to get mine to say ‘hi there’ but that obviously didn’t work so I think I’ll be getting some more letter packs to use with it. I do love that it comes with little love hearts and stars though – so cute!
What have you been loving in April?
