A-Z of Self Care

So I’m sure by now we all know the importance of self-care and looking after ourselves, but it can be hard to fit some me-time into our already busy schedules! That’s why I decided to make a complete A-Z list of self-care ideas, with each letter having at least one 5 minute task and another that takes a bit more time.

The best way I can think of this to work is to pick a word, like your name for example, and then using each letter pick a self-care task listed here and complete it over a certain time. So for me, I could do C’s task on Monday, L’s on Tuesday, A’s on Wednesday and so on!

Of course, that’s just an idea and you could go through the alphabet if you like or just pick a certain activity that jumps out at you whilst you scroll through this post.

I’ve tried to include at least 3 activities for each letter of the alphabet to start with (except for X because it’s so hard to think of words that begin with X) but I’m planning to keep adding to this regularly so eventually it’s a complete master-post of every self-care idea you could ever imagine!

I really hope this is helpful to you, I know I’ll be checking back to complete some activities, and let me know what kind of techniques you’re using to decide what letters you’ll use!


Ask someone for help.

Alone time – take some time for yourself, away from any distractions or noise.

Awareness. Make yourself aware of your thoughts and consciously push any negativity out of your mind.



Bubble bath!

Bake yourself a small treat.

Buy something you’ve wanted for a while.


Call a friend or family member.

Change something in your life that makes you unhappy (can be big or small)

Cry and get it all out.

Cloud watching – see how many shapes you can make with the clouds in the sky.


Do seven star-jumps.

Dance around your room for a minute like no one’s watching.

Declutter a room in your house – or the house if you feel up to it.


Exercise for 10 minutes to clear your head and boost energy levels.

Eat a piece of fruit and savour each mouthful.

Enjoy doing something you haven’t in a while.


Focus on your breathing for 5 minutes.

Find a spare hour in your day to do something you love.

Find something to be thankful for in your daily routine.


Grab some colouring pencils and do some colouring.

Get dressed up just because.

Go to bed early.


Hop on one leg around the room you’re in.

Hug yourself or someone special to you.

Have a glass of water.


Invest in a little sweet treat for yourself.

Incense. Light some incense in your favourite scent.

Inspire yourself by reading an inspirational story or quote.



Jot down 5 things you like about yourself.

Journal about your day or future goals.

Jam session. Play a musical instrument (or turn a household item into an instrument) and sing along with your favourite song.



Kiss yourself or something/someone else you love.

Kindness. Make an effort to only speak and think of yourself with kindness for a full day.

Keep track of all the tasks you want to complete and reward yourself when you do.



Light some candles and watch the flame flicker.

Laugh – watch a funny video or read some jokes.

Listen to an album you haven’t listened to since you were younger.


Meditate. (A great app to use is Stop, Breathe & Think)

Make a small gift for yourself or a friend.

Make a silly face at yourself in the mirror.


Nap. Take some time out and give yourself a 30-minute nap.

Noise. Make as much noise as you can using everything around you!

Notice all of your feelings and why you feel that way. Remind yourself it’s okay.


Open all the windows in your room/house and let in some fresh air.

Offer to help someone.

Observe. Take some time to see a loved one, or a stranger, complete a task and pay attention to their movements.


Pick some flowers.

Pamper yourself.

Pretend the floor is lava and use your furniture to navigate the room without falling in.


Questions. Look up the answer to a question you’ve always wanted to know the answer to.

Quality time. Make some time for yourself and a loved one to do something you really enjoy together.

Quarters. Split your day into 4 quarters and use 2 for work and 2 for me-time.


Run outside, no matter the weather.

Rearrange some furniture in your house.

Research something and find out some more information.


Smile at yourself in the mirror.

Stand outside and breathe in the fresh air.



Tell yourself 3 things you love about yourself.

Talk to someone you wouldn’t normally speak to – whether it’s a quick chat in your local shop or on social media, or stopping to say more than hi to your neighbour.

Take a break from your work/tasks for the day.

Take a walk outside and breathe the air in.


Unique. Make a list of all the things that are unique to you.

Understand what you need and don’t push yourself to do something you don’t feel able to.

Upset your daily routine and complete your usual activities backwards.



Vent and get all of your stress and anxiety out there. You can do this whatever way feels best for you – verbal, written etc.

Volunteer your time to help others.

Video yourself completing a small task – like brushing your teeth or putting your makeup on.


Watch a video on YouTube.

Wake up 15 minutes early tomorrow morning.

Write a list of 5-10 things you’re grateful for.


Xylophone. Watch a video of someone playing the xylophone – because why not?

eXcitement. Plan an activity you love and focus on how much you’re looking forward to it.



Yell at the top of your lungs – get it all out.

Yoga. Practice some yoga positions wherever you are.

‘You are strong, beautiful, smart, okay’ Delete as appropriate and recite this to yourself 3 times today.



Zone out of the real world for a minute or two and check in with how your body feels.

Zig-zag. Walk around your house/room in a zig-zag pattern.

Zero in on a specific body part and pay attention to how it feels/moves during a certain activity.

    These are great ideas! Bubble baths are the best, especially when they involve Lush! I love taking time out to watch YouTube videos, it’s nice to zone out and focus on them. I’ve never thought about splitting my day into quarters before, I might do this as I feel I’ll get more done and won’t waste the day

    I love this so much! So many fabulous ideas, I don’t think I’ll be running out any time soon now! Yoga is one of my faves, at the end of every session I could just fall asleep right there on the floor, it’s so soothing and relaxing, and bubble baths have the same effect on me too!
