So I know this is a bit late because ‘New Year Resolutions’ are made in early January, but I needed time to really think about what I want to improve and change this year. I could just say the usual ‘eat healthily/exercise more’ but that never works for me. I am so jealous of the people who can make those kinds of resolutions and stick to them, but I can 100% confirm I am not one of them.
Also, I’m a firm believer that healthy lifestyle changes take a lot of time, so I try to avoid that kind of resolution as it usually leads to disappointment when 2 weeks into the year you’re sitting with a chocolate-smeared face and heavy heart… or is that just me?
So here are my top 4 resolutions that I want to do this year, which I’m hoping will help me begin to shape the life I aspire to lead.
Try new makeup
This might seem like a really ridiculous goal, but it’s the one I’m most excited for! Usually, I’m a ‘one makeup look’ kinda gal and I think I’ve used the same products since I was about 12 years old! So now that I’m 21, I think it’s time to branch out and try something new. I constantly see so many gorgeous looks on YouTube and Instagram that I’m normally too scared to try but this year I’m determined to give them a go. No more shying away!
Get back to university
My most personal goal is to get back into university and finish up my last year. In November 2016, I decided to take a year out due to mental health reasons and so I’ve spent the past few months trying to build myself back up. I would say this is my main goal for 2017 as I want to push myself through and make my family proud of me, but imagining the achievement I’ll feel when I (finally) graduate makes me super determined to get there!
Make more time for hobbies
I’m one of those people who likes to dip in and out of activities. Usually, I start with 100% motivation and then a) don’t see results or b) see other people are better at it, lose motivation and give up. This year is about changing that! For Christmas, I got every single crafting item I’ve ever wanted and so I’m determined to put them to good use. Blogging is definitely linked with this resolution too, as I’ve wanted to start a blog for years yet always managed to talk myself out of it, but here I am now. YAY.
Travel to new places
I think my travel goals are pretty different to the standard kind of travel goals. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to pack up and travel the world more than anything, but as someone who has never been abroad or on a plane (yes, you read that right) I think months of travelling would be a major shock to the system. For me, this goal is more related to pushing myself to do and see more things that I would usually shy away from. Plus, there are tonnes of amazing places in the UK I’ve yet to see, so I’m hoping to visit these before I start venturing off to faraway lands. This year I’d love to spend more time in Edinburgh, visit London and go to more concerts/events.
What are your resolutions for this year, or do you not believe in making any? Let me know what you think!
